CHAPTER 93.


AN ACT to add a hew section to article four of the Code of


Public Local Laws, title "City of Baltimore," sub-title


"Inspections, Weights and Measures" under sub -division


of said sub-title, "Live Stock" to come in after section


five hundred and six, and to be called five hundred and


six A, relating to the sale of the State cattle yard and


scales.


WHEREAS it is now demonstrated that the State cattle


yards and scales have ceased to be self -sustaining, and that

in view of the consolidation of the Calverton cattle yards


and the Claremont cattle yards into one organization, under


the name of the Union cattle yards, and the competition of


such company, a continuance of the operation of the State


cattle yards and scales, will certainly result in a pecuniary


loss to the State, without furnishing to the people needed


facilities for weighing cattle, therefore


SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of


Maryland, That a new section to be known as section five

hundred and six A, be added to the Code of Public Local

section.

Weights and Measures," under sub-division "Live Stock"


to follow section five hundred and six, relating to the sale


of the State cattle yards and scales, and to read as follows :


Five hundred and six A. The Board of Public Works in


the State is authorized and empowered after proper public


notice inserted in two daily papers published in Baltimore

City for three weeks, to sell on such terms as the said board-

cretion an adequate price is offered for the same, and if no


adequate price is offered for said property, the said board

again the said property for sale in the manner provided for


in this act, and the said board are hereby authorized and


directed to execute in due form the necessary papers to convey


to the purchaser the legal title for said cattle yards and


scales, and the Governor is hereby empowered in his dis-


cretion to close said scales, and the office or position of weigh


master shall cease.
