JOINT RESOLUTIONS.

WHEREAS, the channel of the southern branch of the Patapsco


river, from the Craighill channel to Light street bridge, and


the channel of the middle branch of said river, from Light

Preamble

street bridge to the foot of Butaw street, in Baltimore city, is


too narrow and shallow to admit of the passage of any except


light draught vessels; and


WHEREAS, the mouth of Eock creek, at the intersection of said


creek with the Patapsco river, is the only available harbor for

small vessels between Baltimore city and Annapolis; and


WHEREAS, the said harbor is made dangerous by reason of a num-


ber of small rocks adjacent thereto, which are only covered by

Preamble

a slight depth of water; and


WHEREAS, a fog bell and lighthouse are necessary at this point,


in order to lessen the danger to navigation from said rocks ;

therefore,


Be it resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the


senators and representatives in congress be and they are hereby


respectfully requested to procure legislation by the congress of
the United States, for deepening and widening said channels, and

To pro-
cure legis-
lation

also proper legislation for the establishment of a lighthouse and


fog bell at the mouth of said Eock creek, and on or near said


rocks.

Joint resolutions requesting and directing the senators of the


State of Maryland, in the congress of the United States, to use


their best efforts to secure the passage of a bill, No. 6944 of the


house of representatives of the United States, passed by said


house of representatives, March seventeenth, eighteenth hundred


and ninety, having for its object the transfer of the revenue


marine service from the treasury department to the navy depart-


ment of the United States


Resolved by the Senate and House of Delegates of Maryland, That


the senators of this State in the congress of the United States be


be and they are hereby requested and directed to use all proper


means in their power to secure the passage by said senate of

Revenue

house bill No. 6944 of the house of representatives of the United

marine
service

States, passed by said house of representatives on the seventeenth


day of March, eighteen hundred and ninety, having for its object


the transfer of the revenue marine service from the treasury depart-


ment of the United States to the navy department.
