Joint resolution authorizing the attorney-general to appear for


the State in certain proceedings contemplated to be taken by the


trustees of Patapsco female institute for the dissolution thereof.


WHEREAS, the trustees of .the Patapsco female institute having


become convinced that said institute can no longer be main-

tained as an education institution, as was the purpose o'f its


founders, deem it their duty to surrender its franchises and


propose proceedings for its dissolution; and


WHEREAS, by reason of its obligation to educate eight free scholars


under the acts of eighteen hundred and thirty-nine, chapter

two hundred and sixteen and eighteen hundred forty-two,


chapter five, the State may have an interest in, or claim against


the assets of said corporation in the event of such dissolution,


and the trustees desire such interest and claim to be fully


represented; therefore,


Be it resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the


attorney-general of the State be and he is hereby authorized and


requested to appear for the State in the proposed proceedings, or


any other to the same end, and take such action as he may deem


proper in the State's name and behalf, for the preservation of any

to receive anything from said Patapsco female institute after dis-


solution thereof that the proceeds shall be turned over to the


school commissioners of Howard county for the benefit of the
