SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That for their services in conduct-


ing said investigation thereof, the members of said committee


shall he entitled to receive each the sum of five dollars for every


day in which they shall be actually engaged in their said work,


and that the sum of twenty-five hundred dollars is hereby ap-
propriated for the payment of said services and of the expenses of

accountant and stenographer, or both, as they shall find necessary,


and that the comptroller shall draw his warrant or warrants upon


the treasurer for such sum, or so much thereof as shall be neces-


sary, upon the production of the proper vouchers therefor by said

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That this act shall take effect from


the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 562.


AN ACT to repeal section twelve, chapter one hundred and thirty-


nine, of the act passed at January session, eighteen hundred


and sixty-eight, entitled "an act to incorporate the Ellicott city


and Clarksville turnpike company," as enacted by the act of


eighteen hundred and seventy-eight, chapter thirty-nine, and


to re-enact the same with amendments.


SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,


That section twelve, chapter one hundred and thirty-nine, of the


act passed at January session, eighteen hundred and sixty-eight,


entitled "an act to incorporate the Ellicott city and Clarksville

and seventy-eight, chapter thirty-nine, be and the same is hereby


repealed and re-enacted so as to read as follows :


SEC. 12. And be it enacted, That the company hereby incor-


porated shall have power to build and extend lateral branches of


its road to Unity and Burtonsville, respectively, in Montgomery


county, at any time within ten years from the passage of this act,

with the same powers, privileges and franchises which are con-


ferred upon them by said original charter, passed at January ses-


sion, eighteen hundred and sixty-eight, chapter one hundred and


thirty-nine, as aforesaid, and shall have power to use the most


direct county roads to those places, or to diverge from the same


at will, by and with the consent of the county commissioners of


Howard and Montgomery counties.
