which the contractors had no control during the time of con-

struction, the building cost more than the contract price as shown

by a statement filed with the building committee; and

|

|
WHEREAS, it appears that said annex has been well and sub-
|
|
|
|
stantially built and represents to the State the full value of all
|
|
|

the money expended in its construction, and it is right and proper
|
|
|
|
that said claimants, who furnished labor and material, not being
|
|
|
|
able to protect themselves by placing liens on the State's property,
|
|
|
|
should not be prejudiced in the payment of their claims by the
|
|
|
|
inability of the said contractors to pay for said building out of
|
|
|
|
the contract price in accordance with their bid;
|
|
|
|
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
|
|
|
|
That the comptroller of the treasury be and he is hereby directed
|
|
|
|
to issue his warrant on the treasurer of this State payable to the
|
|
|
|
order of the said building committee for the sum of ($12,253.41)
|
|
|
To pay
|
twelve thousand two hundred and fifty-three dollars and forty-
|
|
|
|
one cents, being the amount required in addition to the unex-
|
|
|
|
pended balance still in the hands of the said committee, to pay
|
|
|
|
the claims hereinafter referred to, and that the said building
|
|
|
|
committee is hereby directed to pay to the firm of Bartlett, Hay-
|
|
|
|
ward and company the sum of ($1,500,) one thousand five hun-
|
|
|
|
dred dollars, and to pay to G. W. Addison, gas fitting, fifty dol-
|
|
|
|
lars; W. B. Turner and Sou, stairs, ninety-three dollars; An-
|
|
|
|
napolis, Washington and Baltimore railroad company, freight,
|
|
|
|
twenty-seven dollars and sixty-three cents; Maryland steamboat
|
|
|
|
company, freight, forty dollars and four cents; Martin Kennedy,
|
|
|
|
lime, forty-four dollars; Garthe Loenstein, slating, six hundred
|
|
|
|
and thirty-five dollars; Burns, Eussell and company, brick, one-
|
|
|
|
hundred and eighty- three dollars and sixty-eight cents; Gill and
|
|
|
|
McMahon, granite, three hundred dollars; Charles A. Hopkins,
|
|
|
|
hauling, two hundred and thirty-three dollars and seventy-eight,
|
|
|
|
cents; George Jewell, bricklaying, one thousand eight hundred
|
|
|
|
and fifty dollars; South Baltimore brick and tile company, brick,
|

|

two thousand and seventy-five dollars; George N. Potee, brick,.
