LAWS OF MARYLAND.


That the following section be added to article four, of the Code

To amend.

of Public Local Laws, title "City of Baltimore," sub-title "Taxes,"


to be known as " Section eight hundred and forty-one A."


841 A. The collector of taxes in Baltimore city shall not be


required to distrain for any taxes assessed or levied upon real


estate or personal property, but as soon as practicable, after the


first day of January in every year, he shall cause a copy of each


bill for taxes upon real estate or personal property, for the preced-


ing year remaining unpaid, to be made oat and delivered to the


person by whom such taxes are to be paid, or one of them if more


than one, or at his, her or their last known residence, or to his,


her, or their agent, or left upon the premises with a notice thereon,


that unless the taxes so due are paid within thirty days thereafter,

five per cent, of the gross amount thereof will be added to the

taxes.

bill, and at the expiration of thirty days from the delivery of


such bill and notice, if the same be not then paid five per centum


of the gross amount thereof shall be added thereto as a penalty


and collected in the same manner as the bill itself; said penalty


shall be applied by the collector for the use of the bailiffs in his


department, and shall be in lieu of their fees, commissions and


costs as heretofore charged; which said fees, commissions and


costs are hereby declared valid and collectible, in all cases where


the same have already occurred in accordance with the schedule


established by the appeal tax court, and the usage now prevailing


in the tax department of the city of Baltimore.

Effective.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this act shall take


effect from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 206.


AN ACT to add a new section to article twenty-seven, of the Code


of Public General Laws, title " Crimes and Punishments,"


sub-title, " Gaming," prohibiting book-making, pool-selling or


gambling on races, cocking-mains and contests of any kind, to


come in after section one hundred and twenty-four, and to be


designated as " Section one hundred and twenty-four A."


SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
