CHAPTER 204.


AN ACT to appropriate a sum of money to pay George A. Evans


and Stewart H. Evans for the loss of the vessel the " Hance


Lawson ;'" also a sum of money to pay Benjamin H. Leach for


damage done to the vessel the "David N. Taylor."


WHEREAS, a certain proclamation was made by the governor of


Maryland A. D., eighteen hundred and eighty-nine, authorizing

the citizens of Maryland to fish in certain waters of the Potomac


river in the State of Maryland; and,


WHEREAS, by virtue of said authority, George A. Evans and


Stewart H. Evans, owners of the vessel the "Hance Lawson," and


Benjamin H. Leach, owner of the vessel the " David N. Taylor,"


did so engage in the business of taking oysters in said waters, and

while so engaged, the said vessel the " Hance Lawson " was un-


lawfully attacked and sunk by the steamship the "Ida Augusta,"


to the damage and loss of the said George A. Evans and Stewart


H. Evans, for which they claim the sum one thousand and five


hundred dollars; and,


WHEREAS, the said vessel the "Daniel N". Taylor" was also un-


lawfully attacked and damaged by the said steamship the " Ida

Augusta," to the damage and loss of the said Benjamin H. Leach,


for which he claims the sum of five hundred dollars; therefore,


SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,


That the comptroller of the treasury of the State of Maryland,
