ing known, who shall neglect or refuse the taxes


imposed by this section ; and the common council


may, in addition to the above, impose upon the


owner or owners of any dog or bitch found running


at large, as aforesaid, such fine as they may deem


proper, not exceeding fire dollars and costs of suit,


which shall be collected as other small debts are.


SEC. 19. And be it enacted, That the common


council may provide by ordinance, that horses, horn-


ed cattle, hogs, goats and sheep shall not be allowed

SEC. 20. And be it enacted, That if any horse,


horned cattle, hogs, goats or sheep shall be found


running at large within the corporate limits of the


said town of Union Bridge, it shall be the duty of


the bailiff to impound the same, and give notice


thereof by advertisement, set up at the two most


public places in said town, describing the animal or


animals so impounded, and if the owner or owners


thereof shall not, within five days after the putting


up of said notice, come forward and prove his, her


or their property, and pay for each and every horse,
cow or ox so impounded, the sum of fifty cents, and

cents, and expense as aforesaid, then it shall be law-


ful for the bailiff to sell the animal or animals (so


impounded) at public sale, and after deducting the

sold, when they shall satisfactorily prove ownership,


and in case no person appears and proves ownership


as aforesaid within twelve months from the sale

said money so received to the credit of and for the


general uses and benefit of the said town of Union


Bridge.
