SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That upon the comple-
|
|
|
|
tion of the said bridge, the said county commission-
|
|
|
|
ers shall keep the same as a toll-bridge, with proper
|
|
|
|
gates and bars to secure the same; and it shall be
|
|
|
|
lawful for them to ask, demand and receive for the
|
|
|
|
purpose of keeping said bridge in good repair and
condition, the following tolls and rates, that is to say:
|
|
|
|
For a foot passenger, five cents; for every horse and
|
|
|
|
rider, six cents; for every cart or wagon with one
|
|
|
|
horse, mule or oxen, ten cents; for every cart or
|

wagon with two horses, or mules or oxen, twelve
|
|
|
|
cents; for each cart or wagon with four horses, mules
|
|
|
|
or oxen, eighteen cents; for each pleasure carriage
|
|
|
|
with one horse, ten cents, with two horses, eighteen

|
|
|
cents, with four horses, thirty-five cents; for each
|
|
|
|
head of horses, mules or cattle, four cents; sheep,
|
|
|
|
swine, each three cents.

|
|
|
SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That the said county
|
|
|
|
commissioners are hereby authorized if in their dis-
|
|
|
|
cretion the same may be deemed advisable or neces-
|
|
|
|
sary, to erect at or near the end of said bridge, a toll

house, and are directed to appoint annually, the first
appointment to date from the time when the bridge

shall be completed and ready for public use, some

|
|
competent and reliable person to act as bridge keep-
|
|
|
|
er, who shall be always on the spot when his duties
|
|
|
|
may require his presence to receive the rates and
|
|
|
|
tolls as aforesaid, and to give free passage by raising
|
|
|
|
or removing the draw, to all vessels or steamers
|
|
|
|
which may approach said bridge for the purpose of
|
|
|
|
passing through the same; the said keeper shall give

and sufficient security to be approved by them, in
|
|
|
|
the penal sum of one thousand dollars, conditioned
|
|
|
|
for the faithful and efficient discharge of his duties,

and safe custody of all money coming into his hands,
and shall account weekly with the county commis-
|
|
|
|
sioners for all tolls collected by him, and shall receive
|
|
|
|
for his services such compensation as said county
|
|
|
|
commissioners shall think just and proper, the same
to be provided for and paid out of the tolls collected.
|
|
|
|
SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That the said county
