when he calls on the taxables of his district, except to repair
bridges or remove accidental obstructions from the roads.

212. The following shall be the rates of compensation for
labor on the public roads, to wit: for every able-bodied hand, the
sum of seventy-five cents per day; for every cart and team, the
sum of one dollar per day.

213. The supervisors shall annually return to the county com-
missioners a true account of all work done on the roads, and by

whom done, in order that persons who have labored thereon may
foe credited by them in the county charges.

214. If any person shall alter, change, obstruct or encroach

upon any road in Caroline county, or cut down, destroy or pur-
posely injure any bridge or causeway, he shall on conviction
thereof in the circuit court, be fined in the discretion of the court
in a sum not exceeding fifty dollars, to be applied to the use of
the county.

215. In all cases when new roads are laid down in Caroline

county, or dividing in any part of said county from adjoining
counties, there shall be no gates allowed on said new roads, nor
shall any gates be allowed on any of the public roads of the
county.

216. John A. Williams, of Caroline comity, is hereby author-
ized and empowered to open a new road for public trade, thirty
feet wide, as follows: Beginning in the centre of the road divid-
ing said counties, and leading from Federalsburg to Reliance, near
the corner of the plum orchard in said John A. Williams' field,
and running through said John A. Williams' field south five and a
half degrees, east one hundred and twenty-two perches, where it
joins the present county road dividing said counties, near Nathaniel
Davis' bridge; and immediately after the said John A. Williams
