664 CAROLINE COUNTY. [ART. 6.

P. L. L., (1860,) art. 10, sec. 100.

123. They shall appoint a judge or judges of each election,
and give one week's notice of the election; and the judge or
judges shall appoint the clerk of the election.

124. They shall, at their first meeting after an election, choose
one of their number to be president of the board, who shall preside
at all meetings of the said commissioners, and preserve order, and
carry into full effect the provisions of this sub-title and the ordi-
nances of said commissioners.

125. The commissioners of said village may meet together
from time to time, as often as occasion may require, upon the
business of said village, and not less than once in every three
months.

126. They may appoint a clerk and assign his duties, and allow
him such compensation as they may think proper, and if a vacancy
occur in the said office at any time, they may fill the same.

127. The clerk shall enter all ordinances passed by the com-
missioners in a book to be kept by them for the purpose; the said
ordinances shall be open at all times for the inspection of any
person interested, and copies of all ordinances shall be put up in
the most public places in the village.

128. The said commissioners may make all such by-laws, regu-
lations and ordinances, not contrary to law, as they may from
time to time deem wise, equitable and expedient for the comfort,
health, convenience and prosperity of the village and its inhabi-
tants ; for the prevention or removal of nuisances, preservation of
health, and suppression of vice and immorality within said village.

129. They may lay an equal tax on the property in said village
to such amount as may from time to time be deemed necessary,
