for the period of one year from the day of making such
contract; provided, said contract shall not allow, as compensation
for the entire printing and publishing of every kind whatsoever,
of said county, a sum exceeding seven hundred dollars.

53. If they fail to effect such contract for printing and pub-
lishing at a sum not exceeding seven hundred dollars, then they
are authorized and empowered to adopt any mode of printing or
publishing for said county, by hand-bills or otherwise, that in
their judgment may seem best for the interest of said county;
provided, the entire cost of the same shall not exceed the sum of
seven hundred dollars in any one year.

54. The two preceding sections shall include the cost of print-
ing and publishing the public local laws passed at each session of
the general assembly, so long as the same are required by law to
be published in said county.

55. The salary of the clerk of the county commissioners shall
be two hundred dollars per annum.

56. The said clerk, before he enters upon the duties of his
office shall give bond to the State of Maryland, to be approved
by the county commissioners, in the penalty of one thousand
dollars, conditioned for the faithful performance of the duties of
his office, and the said bond shall be recorded in the office of the
clerk of the circuit court for Calvert county.

57. The said clerk shall also take and subscribe before one of
said commissioners the following oath: "I, A. B., do swear, that
as clerk to the county commissioners for Calvert county, I will
honestly and faithfully, to the best of my skill and judgment,
execute the duties of the said office, without favor, affection or
prejudice.
