such determination; and if the county commissioners shall ap-
prove the report of said road commissioners, they shall direct the
expenditure of an amount not exceeding three hundred dollars,
per mile, provided the petitioner for such improvements shall
first pay into the treasury of the county an amount not less than
double that appropriated by the county commissioners; and all
of said money shall be expended, and such improvements shall be
under the direction of the road commissioners of the district or
districts where such improvements are to be made. Whenever
any doubt may exist as to the proper location or width of any
road, the road commissioners may cause the same to be surveyed,
and in their discretion, make such alterations as the public con-
venience may require, and their action shall be reported to the
county commissioners, and be ratified by them at the expiration
of thirty days from the filing of such report, unless objection be
filed, with the same right of appeal from the decision of the
county commissioners as is provided in case of opening new roads.
When any new road is located, old road altered, or any road sur-
veyed, it shall not be less than thirty feet in width, and it shall
be the duty of the road commissioners to provide suitable bound-
ing stones, and have them securely planted at such points as they
may deem necessary; and they are authorized, to incur any ex-
pense necessary for the proper work on the road, or the duties of
their office, not exceeding the amount levied for their respective
districts; provided, however, that no account shall be paid unless
endorsed by the chairman and one other member of the board of
district commissioners, and approved by the county commissioners.

205. The building and repairs of all bridges in Baltimore
county shall be under the control of the county commissioners;
and whenever twenty or more taxable inhabitants of said county
shall desire the building or repairs of any bridge, they may make
application to the county commissioners by petition, setting forth
the location of the proposed bridge, or the character and extent of
the proposed repairs, and the probable cost of the same; the county
commissioners may then appoint a board of examiners, to consist
of one road commissioner of the neighborhood, one disinterested
taxpayer, to be named by the petitioners, and the bridge superin-
