tem shall require at least one-third of the road tax to be expended
in the purchase of stone or other s oi table hard materials for the
purpose of macadamizing the roads of said district; and provided,
also, that whenever any taxpayer shall desire to work out two-
thirds of his road tax by hauling stone or other hard materials
upon the county road nearest his farm, at the price fixed for the
same by the road commissioners of said district, he shall be
granted the privilege, and the said road commissioners shall fix
uniform price for said hard materials as far as practicable, sub-
ject to confirmation by the county commissioners.

190. Within ten days after receiving notice of their appoint-
ment, and having taken the oath of office, they shall proceed to
organize their respective boards, and shall meet for the transac-
tion of business at such time and place as they may determine,
and when called by the chairman; and they shall divide their
respective districts into three sub-districts, as nearly equal in
extent as practicable, and shall assign to each commissioner the
sub-district over which he shall have special supervision.

191. Each commissioner shall keep a record of all work and
other transactions pertaining to the roads in his sub-district, and
shall furnish to the county commissioners, on the first Tuesday of
each month, a statement of the amount of labor performed or
materials furnished, the cost of the same and to whom due; and
said statement shall embrace, as near as possible, the entire
expenses of his sub-district for the preceding month.

192. All road commissioners shall be subject to removal by
the county commissioners, for neglect or refusal to comply with
the duties of their office; provided, they shall be notified of the
charge against them in writing by the county commissioners, and
summoned to appear before them at a stated time and answer the
charge; and if any commissioner shall resign or be removed, his
place shall be filled by the county commissioners within thirty
days after such resignation or removal.
