and other furniture thus illegally employed, and to carry such
person before a justice of the peace of the county, to be dealt
with according to its provisions.

267. It shall be the duty of the commanders of the sloops of
the State fishery force in Chester river and the Eastern bay to
keep a vigilant lookout for persons violating any of the provisions
of this sub-title of this article, in connection with their other
duties, and should they detect any one in the illegal use of a
sink-box in any of the waters of Queen Anne's county, to arrest
the said person, and to seize the said sink-box, boats, decoys, and
other furniture thus illegally employed, and to carry such person
before a justice of the peace of Queen Anne's county, to be dealt
with according to law.

268. If any person, after a fair and impartial trial by a jus-
tice of the peace of Queen Anne's county, shall, upon the judg-
ment of the said justice, be convicted of having violated any of
the preceding sections of this sub-title of this article, the said
justice shall impose a fine of not less than twenty dollars or more
than one hundred dollars, and the said person shall stand com-
mitted to the county jail until said fine and costs are paid; pro-
vided, that if said person so convicted is a non-resident of the
county, the said justice shall decree a sale of the said sink-box,
boats, decoys, guns and other furniture thus illegally employed,
which sale shall be made by the officer making the arrest, unless,
it be a commander of the State fishery force, in which case the
justice shall authorize the sale to be made by the nearest con-
stable in the neighborhood where said justice resides, the officer
thus authorized to make sale by this section to advertise the same
in some newspaper published in Queen Anne's county for at least
ten days before the said sale of the said sink-box, decoys, boats,
guns and other furniture thus seized, setting forth the time, place
and terms of said sale, (which shall be for cash only,) and from
the proceeds of said sale the officer shall pay one-half to the
county commissioners, for the use of public roads, and the other
half to the persons aiding in arresting those found guilty by the
said justice, unless the arrest is made by a commander of the
