1616 PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY. [ART. 17.

constables in like cases; and all process shall be returnable before
some justice of the peace for Prince George's county resident in
the town.

1878, ch. 468.

232. In the event of a vacancy in the office of the justice of
the peace, resident in the town, or in case of sickness, absence or
disability of the said justice of the peace, the hearing of the cases
or transaction of the business assigned to said justice of the peace
by this charter may be had before some other justice of the peace
in and for Prince George's county; and the commissioners of
Laurel may provide for the expenses so incurred.

233. The bailiff shall perform such services as said commis-
sioners shall direct; he shall arrest and carry before some justice
for Prince George's county, resident in the town, or as provided
in the preceding section, to be dealt with as hereinbefore provided,
any person found breaking the peace or disturbing the quiet and
order of said town, or violating any of the ordinances made for
securing the safety of the property or the lives of inhabitants of
the town.

234. The commissioners shall have power to impose a license
upon all circuses, menageries, theatrical exhibitions and other
shows and exhibitions for gain, exhibiting within the limits of the
town, not exceeding ten dollars for each.

235. They shall have power to pass ordinances to prevent fast
or immoderate riding or driving through the streets of said town
and when it shall appear that the offender is intoxicated so as to
render it unsafe to permit him to ride or drive through the streets,
may provide for the removal of the horse and vehicle beyond the
limits of said town, or for the deposit thereof in some place of
security until the offender shall be sober, and may confine said
offender, as provided in section 230; to prevent and remove any
obstructions in the streets, lanes or alleys; to prevent the exhibi-
tion of any indecent or immoral shows in said town, and to pass
all other ordinances or by-laws necessary to give effect and opera-
tion to the powers vested in them.
