shall make provision for and pay the per diem of said officers of
registration, and their expenses for office rent, printing, publish-
ing and posting, which shall be incurred under the provisions of
this sub-title of this article; and the said officers of registration
shall have and exercise, during the time they may be engaged in
the discharge of their duties, the powers and authority of a justice
of the peace, for the preservation of order in and about the places
of registration; and any of said officers of registration who shall
wilfully and corruptly place upon the registration list of his
ward, the name of any person not entitled, under the provisions
of this sub-title of this article, to be registered and to vote, or
who shall wilfully and corruptly refuse to strike from said lists the
name of any person not entitled to be registered or to vote, or
who shall wilfully or corruptly refuse to register the name of any
person entitled, under said provisions, to be registered and to
vote, or who shall wilfully or corruptly strike from said lists the
name of any person entitled to be registered and to vote, shall be
guilty of a misdemeanor, and shall be liable to presentment and
indictment therefor in the circuit court for Frederick county, and
upon conviction thereof shall be confined in the penitentiary of
the State of Maryland for a period not exceeding seven years.

168. The judges of election, under the provisions of this sub-
title of this article, shall receive the ballot of every qualified voter
presented to them whose name and designation shall appear upon
the list of registered voters, and who shall present his ballot to
them during the hours appointed for holding any election, and
refuse the ballots of every person whose name and designation
shall not appear upon the list of said qualified voters of his ward;
and any judge of election wilfully and corruptly violating any of
the provisions of this section, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor,
and liable to presentment and indictment therefor in the circuit
court for Frederick county, and on conviction thereof shall be
punished by confinement in the penitentiary of the State of
Maryland for a period not exceeding seven years.
