polls in their respective wards, during all elections held under
this sub-title of this article, for the purpose of maintaining order
and preserving peace.

170. The said judges of election shall, within two days after
any election, make a correct return of the result thereof to the
register of Frederick city, who shall immediately thereafter pub-
lish the same.

171. In case of the death, refusal, disqualification, resignation
or removal of the mayor out of the taxable limits of the city, the
aldermen, for the time being, shall elect a mayor for the residue
of the term.

172. In case of the death, refusal to serve, disqualification,
resignation or removal of an alderman out of the taxable limits
of the city, an election shall be held by the voters of the alder-
manic district wherein a vacancy shall have thus been made, to
fill the same; and the board of aldermen shall fix a time for such
election within fifteen days after the date of such death, refusal
to serve, proof of disqualification, resignation or removal; such
election shall be held at or near the usual place of voting in the
aldermanic district, and the polls shall be kept open from nine
o'clock in the morning until five o'clock in the evening. No
persons, except those whose names are on the list of voters used
at the election of the person whose place is to be filled, shall be
entitled to vote at the election herein provided for.

173. The aldermen, the judges and clerks of election in said
city, and all other officers of said city, before they enter upon the
duties of their respective offices, shall severally take the follow-
ing oath: "I solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the
office of ——— to the best of my knowledge and ability, with-
out favor, affection or partiality." The mayor shall qualify by
taking and subscribing said oath before the clerk of the circuit
court, or before one of his sworn deputies.
