281. Dorchester, Caroline, Cecil, Howard, "Wicomico and
"Worcester counties are exempted from the provisions of sections
1 and 2 of article 86 of the code of public general laws, title
" Sheep."
SHERIFF.
1878, ch. 331.
282. The sheriff of Dorchester county shall not be entitled to
receive more than thirty cents a day for keeping and boarding
each prisoner; and the county commissioners shall make quarterly
settlements with the sheriff, who shall present an itemized account,
and shall give him an order on the county treasurer for all monies
found to be due him for the board and keeping of the prisoners
to date.

283. The commissioners shall annually levy for the use of the
sheriff of the county the sum of thirty dollars for the first, and
ten dollars for each subsequent prisoner who may be convicted at
any term of the circuit court during the current year, in payment
for the trouble and expenses incurred by the sheriff in transferring
such prisoners to the penitentiary or house of correction.

284. He shall receive on executions issued by any justice of
the peace the same fees allowed by law to constables.
SLAUGHTER CREEK BRIDGE.

285. The county commissioners are empowered and authorized
to regulate the travel over Slaughter Creek bridge ; to bring action
at law to recover damages against any person who may injure
said bridge by violent or careless driving, by making fast thereto
vessels or scows, or damaging the said bridge in any manner
whatsoever; the damage so recovered to be paid to the county
treasurer.
