STATE'S ATTORNEY.

286. In all criminal cases which may be tried in the circuit
court for Dorchester county, the judges of said court, in addition
to the sum allowed by law as an appearance fee, may allow to the
State's attorney for said county such compensation in each case,
by way of trial fee, as they may think just and proper, to be levied
by the county commissioners.

287. For services rendered by the State's attorney for Dor-
chester county, before committing magistrates in preliminary ex-
aminations, the judges of said circuit court for Dorchester county
may allow to said State's attorney such compensation, not exceed-
ing the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars for any one year, aa
they shall think just and proper; and for all trials in criminal
cases before justices of the peace the same fees shall be allowed the
said State's attorney as are now allowed in similar cases before
the circuit court, to be taxed by the justice with the other costs
in the case, and paid by the party if convicted, and to be paid by
the county commissioners if the party is acquitted or is unable to
pay.

288. On or before the fifth day of June in each year, the State's
attorney shall make up and present to the judges of said court,
for their inspection and approval, his account for services rendered
during the fiscal year past, which account, when approved by
said judges, shall be filed with the county commissioners for levy.
TERRAPINS.
1872, ch. 267.
289. It shall be unlawful for non-residents of Dorchester
county to take, catch, destroy or dredge for terrapins in the waters
of said county; any person violating the provisions of this sec-
tion, upon conviction before any justice of the peace of said
county, shall forfeit and pay the sum of not less than fifty dollars
nor more than one hundred dollars, and stand committed to the
jail of said county until the same shall have been paid; one-half
