of this article, shall not be available for the purpose
for which it was given, for a longer period than two
' days from its date.

In force from March 23,1865.
1863, c. 144, B. 2 amends and re-enacts sections 59 and 60 as follows:

59. It shall be the duty of the sheriff of Anne
Arundel county and his deputies, and of the con-
stables of the city of Annapolis, to exercise the
utmost vigilance in order to detect all violations
of this article in relation to the sale of liquors to
minors and others as forbidden by section fifty-five,
and to report immediately any such violation to the
judge of the circuit court for said county, who shall
forthwith direct the offending party to be brought
before him and shall require him to give adequate
security for his appearance at the next term of said
court and shall commit such party to jail in default

of such security ; and if any sheriff or constable shall
neglect to report to the judge any such violation of
the said section as soon as the same shall come to his
knowledge, he shall be liable to a penalty of fifty
dollars, for each case of such neglect, to be recov-
ered by any person in the name of the state by action
of debt in said court.

Penalty.

60. All fines imposed and collected under the pro-
visions of section fifty-five of this article shall go,
one-half to the informer (who is hereby made a com-
petent witness,) and the other half shall be divided
equally between the state's attorney and the sheriff
or other officer who shall have made report in the
case to the judge under the fifty-ninth section of
this article.

NOTE —1865 c 39 repeals 1802, c. 44 relating to horses, cattle, sheep or hogs going at large
within two miles of Annapolis, on the west side 1866, c. 46 authorizes the Governor and the
Comptroller and Treasurer to convey to the United States, the Government House and
Grounds of this State, at Annapolis, and to proem c other site and buildings in lieu thereof,
and I860, c 68 cedes to the United States the jurisdiction over an addition to the site of the
Naval School at Annapolis 16B7, c 291 and 1867, c 187 authorize the purchase or condemna-
tion of lands at Annapolis, and in Anne Arundel County for the public use of the United
States as part of the Naval Academy, and cede to the United, States concurrent jurisdiction,
over such lands, and exempt the same from taxation
