TOBACCO.
Chapter 6 amends section 26 of 1864, chapter 346, (section 60 of article 4 in II. Sup-
plement 55) as follows:
32. Every Hogshead of tobacco which has been sold by the
grower thereof, or his agent, and shall remain in any warehouse
or elsewhere under the charge of an inspector for a period of
more than six months from the date of its inspection, shall be
liable to a charge of fifteen cents per month storage for every
month after the expiration of said six months, to be paid before
said tobacco shall be removed; provided however, that no tobacco
shall be liable to any charge for storage which was in any ware-
house or elsewhere under the charge of an inspector on the
tenth day of March eighteen hundred and sixty-four.

Chapter 194 repeals sections 5, 26, 27 of 1864, chapter 348, (sections 39, 80, 61 of
article 4 in II. Supplement 50, 55, 56, ) and re-enacts the same as follows:
33. Each of said tobacco inspectors, as soon as possible
after qualifying, shall take charge of the warehouse to which
he may be appointed, and of all the tobacco, books, furniture,
implements, appurtenances and effects found therein, and shall
receipt to his predecessor therefor, and shall employ such clerks
and laborers, provide and keep on hand such books, implements
and materials as may be necessary for the economical and effec-
tive discharge of his duties as inspector. The chief clerk of
the respective tobacco warehouses shall receive each twelve
hundred dollars per annum, the receiving and shipping clerks
shall receive each nine hundred dollars per annum, the weigh-
ing clerks shall receive each nine hundred dollars per annum,
the screwmen two dollars and fifty cents per day, and the
laborers of the back gang two dollars per day, all of which
shall be paid by the inspectors from the receipts into their re-
spective offices. The inspectors shall at no time employ more
labor than is necessary for the effective performance of the
work to be done, and in his quarterly return to the Comptroller
of the State, each inspector shall state the average number of
screwmen and laborers employed in his warehouse during said
