HAGERSTOWN.
Chapter 146 repeals Section 124, and enacts the following in lieu thereof.
5. The mayor and council may direct and provide for leveling
and paving the streets, alleys, footways and lanes in said town,
or any of them; may grade the same and direct repairs upon
them when they think proper; may cause bridges or culverts
to be made over the waters or hollows; may contract with the
citizens of the town for paving the streets, alleys and lanes in
such manner as they may by ordinance direct; may erect lamps
in any of the streets of said town; cause the same to be lighted
at the expense of the town; may levy upon the taxable property
in said town an amount sufficient to defray the expenses attend-
ing the same, which taxes may be collected as other taxes are
provided for in section one hundred and thirty-six of this Article.

Chapter 313 amends and re-enacts Section 113, as follows:
6. All fines, penalties aiid forfeitures under the ordinances of
the corporation shall be recovered before the mayor, as small
debts are recoverable before any justice of the peace, or the
mayor may, at his discretion, commit offenders against said
ordinances to the jail of Washington county for a period not
exceeding thirty days; and the sheriff of said county shall re-
ceive and safe keep all such offenders in the manner and under
the same regulations as persons committed for a violation of the
laws of this State.

ORPHANS' COURT.
Chapter 355 amends and re-enacts Section 227, as follows:
7. The per diem of each judge of the- Orphans' Court for said
county shall be three dollars for each day's service.
