ALEXANDER BARKER.
AN ACT to allow Alexander Barker, former Collector of State and County Taxes
for the Third Collection District of Calvert county, further time to complete his
collections.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Alexander Barker, Collector of State and County Taxes for the
Third Collection District of Calvert county, for the year eighteen
hundred and forty-nine, be and he is hereby authorized and empowered,
to collect any and all taxes or balances of taxes now remaining due and
uncollected by him in the said district of said county, in the same
manner and with the same privileges and powers he could or might
have done within the time limited by law.
SEC. 2. The said Alexander Barker, before he shall proceed to
execute for any such taxes or balances of taxes, shall present to each
person indebted therefor, at least thirty days before he shall proceed to
execute a bill of such taxes or balance of taxes due by such person,
with an affidavit thereto annexed, (made before some Justice of the
Peace of said county, ) that such bill is just and true as stated, and that
he hath not, nor hath any one for him, received any payment therefor,
nor any security or satisfaction for the same; and if any such person
against whom any such bill may be brought, shall before the expiration
of the said thirty days, make oath before some Justice of the Peace of
said county, that he hath fully paid and satisfied the said bill of taxes
or balance of taxes, then such oath shall forever bar the collection of
such taxes or balance of taxes.
SEC. 3. This act shall take effect from the day of its passage, and
shall continue in force for two years and no longer.
ELIZA JANE BASSFORD.
AN ACT for the relief of Eliza Jane Bassford, by extending her term of instruction
in the Maryland Institution for the Instruction of Blind.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the term of instruction "of Eliza Jane Bassford, of Anne Arundel
county, an inmate of the Maryland Institution for the Instruction of
the Blind, be and the same is hereby extended for the term of two years
from the time when her present term of instruction shall expire, and the
Governor shall direct the Comptroller to draw upon the Treasurer, his
warrant for the sum of two hundred dollars per annum, for her support
in the said Institution, in the same manner as if she was recommended
to the Governor by the County Commissioners of Anne Arundel county.
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall take effect from the
day of its passage.
