'bridge to New Town, and to build a suitable bridge across the said
2sTassaongo creek, on the line of said road.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the said Commissioners shall levy
upon the assessable property of said county a sum of money which in
their judgment shall be sufficient to effect the object of this law.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That this act shall take effect from its
passage.

LEVIN S. H. SMITH..

AN ACT for the relief of Levin S. H. Smith, of Worcester county.

WHEREAS, It is represented to this General Assembly of Maryland,
That a negro man, named Isaac, a slave for life, belonging to Levin
S. H. Smith, of Worcester county, absconded from his owner into
the State of Delaware, from which he was brought back into this
State, and is now in Worcester county; and whereas, in the opinion
of numerous slave holders, citizens of said county, the continued pre-
sence of said slave among the slave population would not be detri-
mental to the public interests, but rather calculated to deter his fellow
slaves from absconding; therefore,

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the said Levin S. H. Smith, be and he is hereby authorized to
retain within this State the said negro slave, named Isaac, as a slave
for life.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, This this act shall take effect from and
after its passage.
