shall appropriate out of the school funds of the district, a sum
not exceeding thirty-dollars a year, for the purchase of books
and stationery, under the direction of said inspectors.
The Act of 1862, ch. 160, adds the following, between sections 73 and 74:
3. That it shall be the duty of the trustees of each primary
school in Howard county, to have a public examination of the
scholars of such school at the school house, at least once in
every year, which examination shall be attended by the said
trustees, and the progress of said scholars as evinced by said
examination, shall be reported to the inspectors of primary
Schools, to aid such inspectors in forming an opinion of the
qualifications of the teachers of said schools, and the trustees
shall report the fact that said examination has been held, to the
commissioners of said county, as preliminary to drawing any
money for the said school.
SHERIFF.
The Act of 1862, eh. 264, adds -the following, relating to the duties and pay of Sheriff:
4. He shall be allowed a fee of one dollar for every committal
of a prisoner to the jail of the county in addition to the amounts
allowed him under the preceding section.
5. He shall be allowed fifty cents for every warrant delivered
by him to the judges of election for the county.
6. It shall be his duty to attend in person, or by deputy, the
Circuit Court, whether sitting in law or equity, and the Orphans'
Court, whenever the said courts, or either of them shall be in
session, and for every day's attendance at each of said courts he
shall be allowed the sum of two dollars; but the said sheriff, or
his deputy shall perform the duties of bailiff in the Orphans'
Court when required by the court.
