The three-hundred and eightieth volume of the Archives of Maryland series contains the text of all laws which amend any of the
four constitutions Maryland has operated under since independence.
The procedure for amending the constitution has changed with each constitution. The 1776 Constitution required that an act to
amend the constitution, after being passed in one session, must be confirmed by an act at the following session of the General
Assembly.
The 1850 Constitution required that amendments be made by conventions held ever ten years for the purpose of amending the
constitution.
The 1864 Constitution required that a vote of 3/5 of each house must pass an amendment and then it must be put on the ballot
at the next election for members of the General Assembly for the public to vote for or against.
The 1867 Constitution requires that a vote of 3/5 of each house must pass an amendment and then it must be put on the ballot
for the public to vote for or against.
