such duties as now are or may hereafter be fixed by
law. In cases of a vacancy by death, resignation, refusal to
serve, or neglect to qualify, or to give bond, or by disqualifica-
tion, or removal from the County, the Governor shall appoint
a person to be Sheriff for the remamender of the official term.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted by the authority afore-
said, That the aforegoing Section hereby proposed as an
amendment to the Constitution of this State shall be at the
next ensuing general election being the presidential and con-
gressional election to be held on the Tuesday next after the
first Monday in November, 1916, submitted to the legal and
qualified voters thereof for their adoption or rejection, in pur-
suance of the directions contained in Article 14 of the Consti-
tution of this State, and at said General Election the vote on
the said proposed amendment shall be by ballot, and upon such
ballot there shall be printed the words "For the Constitutional
Amendment" and "Against the Constitutional Amendment,"
as now prescribed by law, and immediately after said election
due returns shall be made to the Governor of the vote for and
against said proposed amendment, as directed by the said Arti-
cle 14 of this Constitution, and if it shall appear to the Gov-
ernor that the majority of the votes cast at said election on
said amendment were cast in favor thereof, the Governor shall
by his proclamation declare the said amendment, having re-
ceived the majority of votes, adopted by the people of Mary-
land as part of the Constitution thereof, and thenceforth said
amendment shall be part of said Constitution.
NOTE—Chapter 547 became a law without signature by reason of the
fact of its being a Constitutional Amendment and Executive
Approval is not necessary as it is passed by a three-fifths vote.
