740 ARTICLE 56.

You are hereby notified that suit has been filed against you by......

......................... Plaintiff, in the.................. Court,

.................. State of Maryland, or before a Justice of the Peace

in the................ election district of................... County,

Maryland, (or before the Justice of the Peace at large for said County or
in the People's Court of Baltimore City) to recover damages for the wrongs
set forth in the copy of the declaration, cause of action or titling attached
hereto; and that service of process against you has been made by leaving
a copy of such process in the hands of the Secretary of the State of Mary-
land, or in his office; and that you must plead to said declaration, cause of
action or titling within sixty days from the date of delivery noted upon
your return receipt to this letter, or else judgment by default may be
entered against you.

190C. Every motor vehicle owned by a non-resident of this State, for
which a registration in this State is required, by reason of the fact that the
laws of this State in which the non-resident resides requires the payment
of a registration fee from a resident of Maryland for the operation of a
similar motor vehicle, shall pay a registration fee to the Commissioner of
Motor Vehicles of the State of Maryland, equal in amount to that collected
by the authorized official or body of the State of the non-resident for the
registration of such motor vehicle owned by such non-resident, but in no
case shall the fee paid to the Commissioner of Motor Vehicles of Maryland
be less than the amount as is now or may hereafter be provided for by the
laws of this State for the registration of a similar motor vehicle.

193. (1) Brakes. Every motor vehicle, except trailers and side-cars,
while in use on the public highways of this State, shall be provided with
adequate brakes.

(2) Horns. Every such motor vehicle shall be equipped with a suit-
able bell, horn or other signaling device producing an abrupt sound suffi-
ciently loud to serve as an adequate warning of danger, but no person
operating any motor vehicle shall make or cause to be made any unneces-
sary noise with such bell, horn or signaling device, or use the same ex-
cept as a warning of danger, and such signaling device shall not be
sounded while passing a horse or other animal in the open country. With-
in the limits of cities, towns and villages, loud sounding signaling de-
vices shall not bemused during the period from one hour after sunset to
one hour before sunrise, unless absolutely necessary to avoid accidents.
An adequate signaling device shall in all cases be sounded on approaching
curves, tops of hills and intersecting highways in the open country where
the operator's view is obstructed.
