one year for his personal expenses in visiting the public schools of said
county, upon monthly accounts and vouchers thereof to be exhibited to
and passed by said board, and he shall not be allowed any fees or extra
compensation for examining candidates for the profession of teacher in
said county, or for visiting the schools thereof, or for the discharge of any
other duties directly or indirectly pertaining to his said office. The office
hours of said secretary, treasurer and examiner shall be from nine o'clock
A. M. until three o'clock P. M., and he shall be in attendance at his office
between said hours for the transaction of the business thereof on Tues-
days and Saturdays of each week, and on other days of each week, when
not visiting the schools of said county, as the business of his office or the
orders of said board shall require.

457. The Board of Trustees of the White Public School in the City of
Annapolis is hereby authorized to regulate the length and hours of ses-
sions for the White Public School in the City of Annapolis with the con-
sent of the Board of County School Commissioners for Anne Arundel
County.

458. The Board of County School Commissioners of Anne Arundel
County are hereby authorized to build such additional school houses as
may in their judgment be necessary.

The County Commissioners of Anne Arundel County are hereby au-
thorized and empowered to levy annually, at the usual time of making the
county levy, upon the assessable property of said county, such sum as the
said Board of County School Commissioners shall estimate as necessary
for said purpose, not to exceed five cents on the hundred dollars of said
assessable property, to be paid over to the Board of County School Com-
missioners and used for the purposes herein set forth.

TEACHERS—SALARIES.*

459. The salaries of all white teachers regularly employed in said
county on and after the first day of September, 1918, shall be as follows:
No white teacher regularly employed in a public school of Anne Arundel
County shall receive a salary of less than five hundred dollars ($500.00)
per school year. Provided, no white teacher regularly employed in public
schools of said county, holding a third-grade certificate of the first class,
and who has taught in the public schools of the State of Maryland for a
period of eight years shall receive a salary of less than five hundred and
fifty dollars ($550.00). No white teacher regularly employed in a public
school of Anne Arundel County, holding a second-grade certificate, and
