of lateral roads, and they shall each year levy such amount as is necessary
to make up Prince George's County's share of said allotment of said State
fund. And in addition thereto, the County Commissioners may levy an
amount sufficient to take up any balance in or additions to said fund which
may be available to Prince George's County, and it shall be the duty of
the County Commissioners to use the amount of said levy to carry on as
far as possible the scheme of construction of State-aid or lateral roads in
Prince George's County, and all powers given the authorities of Prince
George's County by the General Laws of the State for the purpose of build-
ing such roads are hereby especially confirmed and vested in the Board
of County Commissioners of Prince George's County.
All monies for the use of the roads and bridges in Prince George's
County from whatsoever source the same may be derived, shall be de-
posited by the Board of County Commissioners in one or more banks of
said county to the credit of said Board, specially designated as the "Coun-
ty Road Fund." The total sum so received shall be used as follows:
The Board of County Commissioners shall first deposit to the credit of
a separate account to be known as "Redemption and Interest Account" in
some banks located in Prince George's County, a sum sufficient to meet the
payment of principal and interest on bonds authorized under Sections 287
and 288* of this Article, in order that the said bonds may be redeemed and
cancelled and the interest thereon paid as prescribed therein. There shall
then be put aside in a general fund sufficient money to pay the fixed
charges provided under this Act, which shall include the sum of $300.00
per year each to the County Commissioners as compensation for their
duties hereunder. A sum not to exceed $600.00 per year as a salary of
the road clerk, such portion of the compensation of the attorney of the
County Commissioners as may be properly apportioned to his legal advice
in connection herewith, and such other sums as may be properly payable
out of such general fund under the provisions of this Act. They shall
then divide the remainder of the said money among the road districts of
said county according to road mileage in each of said read districts, not
including incorporated towns and State roads; and the said Board of
County Commissioners shall annually inquire into, examine and deter-
mine the amount of said road mileage in each of said road districts; and
after such apportionment of road funds is made, no portion of said money
shall be diverted from the road district to which it has been apportioned,
and at the time of said apportionment the said county road clerk shall
notify each of said road district committee chairman of the amount of
mileage so apportioned his road district.
In case there shall not be sufficient money available in any year to start
the working of roads before the amount of the levy for such year is avail-
able, the Board of County Commissioners is hereby authorized to use any
surplus funds which they may have in hand during the months of March
and April up to the sum of $15,000.00. In the event that such fund is
used the Board of County Commissioners shall repay the same out of
