32 ARTICLE 1.

COUNTY COMMISSIONERS.*

P. L. L. (1888), art. 1, sec. 30. 1860, art. 1, sec. 12. 1904, ch. 387, sec. 1.

92. The three members of the Board of County Commissioners for
Allegany County, elected in November, 1903, shall hold their said offices
for a period of four years from the time of their election, or until their
successors are elected and qualified, and that said three members of said
Board on and after November, 1905, shall compose and constitute the
Board of County Commissioners for Allegany County.

93. At the county election to be held in Allegany County in Novem-
ber, 1907, and at each two years thereafter, three members shall be elected
to the Board of County Commissioners for Allegany County, who shall
serve for the period of two years, or until their successors are elected and
qualified.+

94. The County Commissioners of Allegany County now in office and
those hereafter elected to said office, shall meet at least twice in each week,
and they shall receive full compensation for all of their services, the sum
of fifteen hundred dollars per annum, payable monthly.

95. When the County Commissioners make the annual levy, they shall
specify therein how many cents or the fraction thereof are levied for roads
on each one hundred dollars of taxable basis of Allegany County; how
many cents or fraction thereof for interest on floating debt; how many
cents or the fraction thereof for discharge of said floating debt; how many-
cents or fraction thereof for interest on bonded debt; how many cents or
fraction thereof for discharge of bonded debt; how many cents or the
fraction thereof for schools, and how many cents or the fraction thereof
for each of the items of expenditures by classes; and it shall be the duty
of the treasurer to keep a distinct fund, according to such levy, for each

*Since 1910, the County Commissioners of Allegany County have been authorized
to Issue bonds, the maturity of which extend beyond 1930, as follows:
1916, ch. 480—$15,000 for Court House;
1918, ch. 108—$75,000 for schools;
1920, ch. 190—$700,000 for schools;
1922, ch. 234—$1,000,000 for schools;
1924, ch. 513—$60,000 for Court House;
1927, ch. 298—$500,000 for schools;
1927, ch. 418—$100,000 for Memorial Hospital;
1929, ch. 158—$180,000 for roads (notes).

Each of these Acts authorizes and directs the County Commissioners to levy
taxes sufficient to pay the interest and to retire the bonds as they mature.

+Sec. 5 of ch. 387 of Acts of 1904 repealed all acts inconsistent therewith. Under
Art. 17 of the Md. Constitution County Commissioners are elected for four years.
