2226 ARTICLE 10.

be deemed necessary to accomplish the purposes aforesaid, which tax shall
be collected and paid to the President and Commissioners, by the collector
appointed by them, who shall have the same power to distrain therefor as
the collector of the public county assessment has to distrain for the same;
provided, said tax shall not exceed twenty-five cents on the one hundred
dollars of the taxable property of said town, for any one year; and the
President and Commissioners shall fix the term of office, amount of bond
and compensation of such collector.

127. They shall have full power and authority, annually, to appoint a
bailiff, whose duty it shall be to preserve the peace and good order of the
town, and to perform such other duties as may be assigned him by them;
and for this purpose he is vested with the same power and authority as
constables now have under the laws of this State.

128. They shall have full power and authority to straighten and widen
old streets, and to lay out and grade new ones, when in their discretion the
same may be necessary; and they shall have full power to provide for the
payment of damages and expenses incurred in widening or opening the
streets aforesaid, by levying an assessment upon the whole of the assess-
able property of the town, or upon the property of persons benefited there-

by.

129. Nothing contained in this subtitle of this Article shall be so con-
strued as to authorize the corporation to issue any device, token, note,
certificate, or evidence of debt, to be used as currency.

CIDER.

1908, ch. 633, sec. 1 (p. 765).

130. It shall be unlawful for any person or persons, or body corporate,
firm or company, to sell or otherwise dispose of by way of barter, directly
or indirectly, any cider made from apple, pear, peach, or any other manu-
factured cider, in Election District No. 5, commonly Lakes District, in
Dorchester County.

131. Any person or persons, or body corporate, firm or company, who
shall violate the above section shall, upon conviction before any justice of
the peace, or Circuit Court of Dorchester County, be fined in the discre-
tion of the justice of the peace or the judge of the circuit court, a sum not
exceeding fifty dollars, and in default of the payment of said fine shall be
committed to the county jail for a period not exceeding thirty clays.
