25. They shall pay the said overseer a sum not exceeding three hun-
dred dollars per annum as a salary, and so pro rata during his continuance
in office.

26. They shall require the overseer to give bond, with good and suffi-

cient securities, in the penalty of five hundred dollars, payable to them,
conditioned for the faithful discharge of his duties as such overseer.

27. The overseer shall keep a fair and regular list of all poor, insane,
vagrants, beggars, vagabonds, and other offenders committed to the alms-
house and insane asylum, and accounts of all material and other things
that may come to his hands aa overseer, and of all expenses and charges
attending the maintenance and support of the inmates of the almshouse
and insane asylum, and of all moneys received by him for the sale of the
produce of their labor, and shall render the same under oath, to be admin-
istered by one of the trustees, to the trustees at their regular meetings,

or oftener if required.

28. The said overseer may compel any of the inmates of said almshouse
or insane asylum, if of sufficient ability, to work and labor, and shall
account for the produce of their labor.

29. Any of the said trustees may, under his hand in writing, appoint
what poor, sick and insane shall be received into said almshouse and in-
sane asylum; and any justice of the peace may, under his hand in writing,
in his discretion, appoint what poor, sick and insane shall be received into
said almshouse and insane asylum, to be there cared for until the next
meeting of the board of trustees.

30. The said trustees shall purchase all necessary supplies, bedding
and furniture for the almshouse and insane asylum, clothing for the in-
mates, and stock and farming utensils for the farm.

31. All sheriffs, constables and other officers shall aid the trustees for
the poor and insane, and all persons employed by them, in the perform-
ance of their respective duties.
