548 LAWS OF MARYLAND. [Ch. 387]

WHEREAS, At the time of the passage of the ordinance of esti-
mates for the year 1912 it was not known that the next
Democratic National Convention would be held in Baltimore
during the year 1912; and,

WHEREAS, It is desirable and for the interests of the city that
there should be an extraordinary expenditure upon smooth
paving and printing extra copies of the Baltimore Book and
street cleaning and street lighting, and for the painting and
repairs of the iceboats "Annapolis" and "Latrobe," for which
extraordinary expenditures no provision was made in the
ordinance of estimates for the year 1912, and, under the
City Charter, the Board of Estimates can not prepare another
ordinance of estimates until the annual ordinance for the
year 1913; therefore,

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the Board of Estimates of Baltimore City be and
it is hereby authorized to meet as soon as conveniently may
be after the passage of tbis act, and prepare an ordinance
making such extraordinary appropriation for paving, repaving
or repairing such streets leading to the depots and other public
places which they may deem advisable, in view of the coming
of the Democratic National Convention, and to make such addi-
tional appropriation for extraordinary street cleaning and
sprinkling, prior to and during the time of the holding of the
said convention, and for extraordinary lighting during the time
of said convention, and for the repainting and repairing of the
iceboats "Annapolis" and "Latrobe," and for publishing extra
copies of the Baltimore Book, as in their judgment may be
proper, not exceeding in all the sum of fifty-five thousand dol-
lars ($55,000), said sum to be appropriated from any funds
of the city not otherwise appropriated, if there be such funds
available, and, if there be no such funds available, then such
sum to be appropriated by way of anticipation of the revenues
for the year 1913; and, upon such appropriation being so made
by the Board of Estimates, the same shall be submitted to the
City Council in the form of an ordinance, and if passed by
the City Council, the money so appropriated shall be available,
and may be used for said purposes.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this act shall take
effect from the date of its passage.

Approved April 8, 1912.
