CHAPTER 386.

AN ACT to add a new section to Article 11 of the Public Local
Laws of Maryland, title "Frederick County," sub-title
"Sheriff," to be known as section 430A of Article 11, direct-
ing and authorizing the sheriff of said county to require all
persons of sufficient ability sentenced to imprisonment in the
county jail of said county in punishment of any crime or
misdemeanor committed in said county by any Court or jus-
tice of the peace of said county to work on the public roads
and highways of said county, or to do some work in connec-
tion with the improvement thereof, as part of the prison
discipline and management.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That a new section be and the same is hereby added to
the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland, title "Frederick
County," sub-title "Sheriff," to be known as section 430A of
Article 11 of said code, and to read as follows:

430A. The Sheriff of Frederick county is hereby authorized
and directed to require all persons of sufficient ability who
shall be sentenced to imprisonment in the county jail of said
county by any Court or justice of the peace of said county as
a punishment for any crime or misdemeanor, committed therein,
to work upon the public roads and highways of said county,
or to do some work in connection with the improvement thereof,
as part of the prison discipline and management, provided that
nothing herein shall apply to persons convicted and sentenced
for crimes or misdemeanors committed prior to the first day
of June, in the year 1912.

Approved April 8, 1912.

CHAPTER 387.

AN ACT to authorize the Mayor and City Council of Baltimore,
through its Board of Estimates and an ordinance to appro-
priate the sum of fifty-five thousand dollars ($55,000.00),
or so much thereof as the said board may deem necessary, for
the extraordinary expenses of certain departments of the city
government occasioned by the coming of the Democratic
National Convention to Baltimore.
