PHILLIPS LEE GOLDSBOROUGH, GOVERNOR. 389

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That one new section be added to Chapter 227 of the
Acts of the General Assembly of Maryland of the year 1906,
entitled "An Act to incorporate the town of Betterton, in Kent
County," to be designated as section 28, and to read as follows:

SEC. 28. That the Commissioners of Betterton may levy on
the assessable property of Betterton such sum of money as they
may deem necessary, not exceeding ten cents on the hundred
dollars in any one year, in addition to the levy of thirty cents
on the hundred dollars now authorized by law, and shall have
the same powers in collection of such additional sum as they
may levy as they may now possess.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

Approved April 8, 1912.

CHAPTER 196.

AN ACT to provide for the placing and maintaining of flagpoles
and American flags over the public school houses in Alle-
gany county, and to provide for an annual appropriation by
the County Commissioners of Allegany County for a sum
of money not to exceed five hundred dollars in any one year
for that purpose.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the County Commissioners of Allegany County be
and they are hereby authorized, empowered, directed and
required to levy and appropriate annually or so often as it
shall be necessary a sufficient sum of money not to exceed five
hundred dollars in any one year for the purpose of erecting
and maintaining flagpoles and American flags over each and
every public schoolhouse in Allegany county.

SFC. 2. Be if and it is hereby enacted, That the sum of
money so appropriated shall be appropriated by the County
Commissioners of Allegany County to the use of the County
School Commissioners of Allegany County, and shall be
expended by the said County School Commissioners in erect-
ing and maintaining flagpoles and American flags over each
and every public schoolhouse in Allegany county.

SEC. 3. Be it and it is hereby enacted, That the County
School Commissioners of Allegany County be and they are
