County a corporate bond in the sum of one thousand dollars
($1,000) for the faithful performance of his duties. In case
of vacancy in the office of said County Road Superintendent
caused by death, resignation or otherwise the County Commis-
sioners of Howard County shall, within thirty (30) days,
appoint some competent person having the above qualifications
as County Road Superintendent for such unexpired term caused
by such vacancy.

SEC. 119D-1. The said County Road Superintendent shall
have the active control and supervision of the building, work-
ing, repairing and reconstruction of public roads and bridges in
Howard county, subject to the control and approval of the said
County Commissioners, and it shall be his duty to give personal
supervision to all work, repairs, building and maintenance of
the roads and. bridges of said county, and all employees herein-
after authorized to be appointed shall be under his personal
direction, and he shall be responsible for the actual work done
upon the roads in the several districts of Howard county, and
shall make all specifications for the building of new roads and
bridges in said county. The said County Road Superintendent
of Howard county shall employ such help in addition to those
hereinafter provided for in this act, as he may deem expedient
to carry out the provisions of this act; provided, that each
employee shall not be paid a sum to exceed the amount of one
dollar and fifty cents ($1.50) per day, unless the said County
Road Superintendent shall first obtain the consent in writing
of the County Commissioners, which writing shall state the
amount in excess of one dollar and fifty cents ($1.50) per day
authorized to be paid to said employees employed by the said
County Road Superintendent; provided, however, that the-
amount paid for work done and materials furnished shall not
exceed the amount assigned by the County Commissioners of
Howard county for the purpose of building, constructing and
furnishing of materials of roads and bridges for any fiscal year
in any election district. The said County Commissioners of
Howard county shall only pay such employees upon the vouchers,
signed and presented by the said County Road Superintendent.

SEC. 119E-1. The County Road Superintendent shall hire
such teams and implements as he may deem necessary for the
building, working, repairing and constructing the roads and
bridges. Said County Commissioners shall pay for the hire of
such teams and implements upon vouchers presented and signed
by said County Road Superintendent. He shall pass upon and
inspect all material purchased by the County Commissioners
to be used in the construction, building or repairing of roads
