COMPTROLLER OF THE TREASURY. VII

Personal Property, in the several Counties and City of
Baltimore, for the year 1888, the aggregate of which is
$490,016,183.00, being an increase over that of 1887, of

$4,176,411.00.

The levy for State Taxes for 1888 on the Eeai and Per-
sonal Property of the State at 17 3/4cents on each hundred
dollars amounted to $869,778.63. While the basis for 1888
is larger than that of 1887, the reduction in the rate of
levy for State purposes, made the amount of State Taxes1
less than in 1887, by the sum of $41,170.87.

PUBLIC SCHOOL TAXES.

The State levy for Public Schools is shown in de-
tail in "Statement L," amounting in the aggregate to
$514,516.94.

The State School Tax on shares of stock in incorpor-
ated Institutions was large however, causing the re-

ceipts of School Tax during the fiscal year to amount to
$526,993.98.

The Disbursements of School Tax during the fiscal
year amounted to $520,200.37. The entire amount of
Public School Tax will not be distributed until the close

of the School year, 15 June next.

LICENSES, &c.

"Table No. 1," shows the receipts of Revenue from,
Tarious Licenses mentioned therein, interest and excess
of fees of Clerks of Courts and other Officers therein
named, amounting in the aggregate to $480,332.56.

"Table No. 2" shows the receipts of State tax on
collateral inheritances, tax on commissions of Executors
and Administrators, and excess of fees of office of cer-
tain Registers of Wills, amounting in the aggregate to
$99,515.58.

"Table No. 3'' exhibits in detail the receipts of State
taxes from Collectors in the several Counties and City
of Baltimore, during the fiscal year 1888, amounting in
the aggregate to $803,264.14.
