accept his statement.
NORTHERN CENTRAL RAILWAY COMPANY.
In obedience to chapter 260 of 1854, this Company has
punctually made its quarterly payments, amounting in the
year to $90,000.
TOBACCO INSPECTIONS,
The gross receipts from the State Tobacco Inspections in
Baltimore, for the year as exhibited in the TABLE No. 6, ap-
pear to have been $87,685.03, and the expenses for the same
time were $57,258.37, which being deducted, leaves a nett
balance of $30,426.66 (being $21,563.86 more than that of
1856) to be applied to the payment of the interest of the To-
bacco Debt, &c.
EXCESS OF FEES
The receipts from Excess of Fees, arising by the operation
of the first section of the Tenth Article of the Constitution.
and the Act of 1853, chapter 444, in relation to the emolu-
ments of Clerks and Registers, amounted in the year to $5,-
668.02, being $351,59 lees than was received on the same ac-
count in 1856.
Of these receipts the sum of $696.53 was paid by the late
Clerk of the Circuit Court for Frederick county; $1,530.76
by the Clerk of the Court of Common Pleas of Baltimore
city; $268.16 by the late Clerk of the Criminal Court 'for
Baltimore city ; $210.06 by the late State's Attorney for Bal-
timore city; $902.49 by the present State's Attorney for Bal-
timore city, (this return which is a large one, embraces but
two Terms of, the year, upon which only Fees had been re-
ceived to 1st of January, 1857,) and $2,060.02 from the five
Flour Inspectors in the City of Baltimore.
The Inspectors of Flour at first demurred to the payment
of $400 each, upon the ground, as stated in the Comptroller's
