CHAP. 59.

CHAPTER 73.

Passed Feb.20,1836

An act to provide f or the payment of Jurors and State

 

Witnesses, in Montgomery county.

Levy for 1836 & 7

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of

 

Maryland, That the Levy Court of Montgomery coun-

 

ty be, and they are hereby authorised and required to

 

levy on the assessable property of said county, at the

 

usual time of making the county levy, in the year

 

eighteen hundred and thirty-six, such sum of money as

 

the said Levy Court may deem sufficient to defray the

 

expenses which have been or may be incurred by the

 

attendance of Jurymen and State Witnesses, at Mont-

 

gomery County Court, during the years eighteen hun-

 

dred and thirty-six and thirty-seven.

Annually in ad-vance

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That it shall be the duty

 

of the said Levy Court, to levy as aforesaid, in the year

 

eighteen hundred and thirty-seven, and annually there-

 

after, such sum of money as they may deem sufficient to

 

pay the expenses which may be incurred the then suc- ,

 

ceeding year, by the attendance of Jurymen and State

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the sum or sums of

 

money directed to be levied by this act, shall he col-

 

lected by the Collector of Montgomery county as other

 

charges are now collected, and shall be accounted for

 

by him as hereinafter directed.

Payment directed

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That it shall be the duty

 

of said Collector to pay to the Jurymen and State.

 

Witnesses of said county, immediately after the termi-

 

nation of each and every court, such sum of money as

 

they may severally be entitled to receive for their at-

 

tendance as Jurors and States' Witnesses.

Certificates

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That a certificate signed

 

by the Clerk of the county court, expressing the number

 

of days which any Juryman or State Witness may have

 

attended said court, and the sum due to him for such

 

attendance, shall be a sufficient authority to the said

 

Collector to pay the amount so specified in the said

 

certificate.
