RESOLUTIONS. 1835.

Schools in this State, is exempt from taxation, by vir-tue of the act of Assembly, passed on the twentieth of January, seventeen hundred and ninety-eight, yet the literary and charitable institutions, above named, not coining within the denomination of county schools in the said act mentioned, and being thus annually required to refund by taxation, a considerable portion of the annual donation from the State,—Therefore;

Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the buildings in which Saint John's benevolent school and orphan asylum and Saint John's literary institution, together with the lot or parcel of land, upon which the said buildings are erected, as well as the library, philosophical apparatus and other personal property contained in said buildings, be and the same are exempted from taxation in like manner, and as fully as the respective colleges and county schools in this State; provided, that that exemption shall continue and be in force so long as the said property shall be held and used "in the manner and for the purposes above specified, and no longer.

Resolution in favor of Church Hill Academy, in

Passed Mar.26, 1836

Queen Ann's County.

 

Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That

 

the Academy at Church Hill, in Queen Ann's county,

 

shall hereafter be entitled to draw the sum of two hun-

 

dred dollars, out of the donation heretofore given to

 

the Academy at Centreville in said county, and the

 

Treasurer of the Western Shore, is hereby directed

 

and required to pay on the first day of April next, and

 

on the same day annually thereafter, to the trustees of

 

Church Hill Academy or their order, for the use of

 

said Academy, the said sum of two hundred dollars.
