1835. RESOLUTIONS.

And forasmuch as the people of the State of Maryland, to whom the Federal Constitution is dear, by whom it has been ever cherished and who are determined at all hazards to maintain it, view with deep solicitude this alarming infraction of one of its important provisions, and are desirous to record their solemn protest against its violation:—Therefore,

Resolved by the General Asssembly of Maryland, That the expunging from the journal of either house of Congress, the whole or any part of the proceedings of the body, is a manifest and dangerous violation of the Constitution of the United States.

And be it further resolved, That our Senators and Representatives in Congress be requested to use all constitutional means to prevent a measure fraught with such danger to constitutional freedom.

Resolved, That his excellency, the Governor, be requested to transmit a copy-of the preceding preamble and resolutions to each of our Senators and Representatives in the Congress of the United States.

Passed Mar.13,1836

Resolution authorising a survey and estimate of the

 

cost of a Rail Road in Worcester county.

 

Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That

 

the Governor and Council, be, and they are hereby

 

authorised and required, on or bcfor the first Monday

 

in June next, to adpoint three commissioners, citizens

 

of Worcester county, and they are hereby authorised

 

to make a requisition on the Governor of the State for-

 

th e services of the States Engineer, and should they

 

not be able to get the services of the said engineer then

 

they, or any two of them shall be authorised to employ

 

an engineer, and to make a recognisance and survey,

 

and to estimate the cost of a rail raid within the limits

 

of Worcester county; from some point on the south line

 

of the State of Delaware, through the Towns of Ber-

 

lin, Newark and Snowhill, to some suitable point on

 

Pocomoke River, also to extend the recognisance and
