all the jurisdiction, and powers and authority, and

 

perform all the duties belonging or assigned to justices

act shall not be construed to repeal, or in any wise ef-

 

fect the act of the Session of eighteen hundred and

 

twenty-five, chapter one, hundred and eighty-nine, and

 

the supplement thereto, entitled, an act to authorise the

 

appointment of justices of the peace in the city of Bal-

 

timore with limited jurisdiction.

Term one year, &c.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted. That the said Aldermen

 

shall hold their offices respectively for a year from the

 

date of their commissions and thereafter, until ap-

 

pointments shall respectively be made in their places,

Oath required

and that to he qualified to act under their commissions,

 

they shall make the oaths or affirmations now prescri-

 

bed by justices of the peace aforesaid, in order to their

 

qualification.

Salary $1000

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the said Aldermen

 

for their official services, shall each receive an annu-

 

al compensation of one thousand dollars, payable in

 

equal quarterly amounts, by the Mayor and city Coun-

 

cil of Baltimore.

Stall receive feel as heretofore

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That the said Aldermen

 

shall demand and receive in all cases, and for all acts

 

within their jurisdiction and authority, including the

 

taking of acknowledgements of deeds, the fees now or

 

that shall hereafter be allowed by law to be demanded

 

by justices of the peace for the city of Baltimore, and

And pay over monthly

they shall at the end of every month from the time of

 

their respectively being qualified to act as aforesaid,

 

make return on oath or affirmation, and pay over te

 

the Register of the city of Baltimore for the use of the

 

city, all fees received by them as aforesaid, during

 

such period.

Shall report quar-terly on oath

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That at the end of every

 

quarter of a year the said aldermen shall make a repot

 

on oath or affirmation to the Mayor of said city, set-

 

ting forth the number of cases civil or criminal, which

 

during such period shall have been acted on by them,

 

and all the acknowledgments of deeds taken before
