An act to establish a Ferry, at Mataponi Landing, in
|
Passed Mar,26,1836
|
Worcester County.
|
 
|
WHEREAS, it is represented to this General Assem-
|
 
|
bly of Maryland, by the memorial of sundry citizens
|
 
|
of Worcester county, that they labour under great in-
|
 
|
convenience from the want of a public ferry, at Mata-
|
 
|
poni Landing, in said county, across the Pocomoke ri-
|
 
|
ver, to the land of William Adams, opposite the said
|
 
|
landing, and have prayed that an act may pass to re-
|
 
|
lieve them of their grievances: — Therefore,
|
 
|
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
|
Levy court appoint
|
Maryland, That the Levy court of Worcester county,
|
commisioners
|
be, and they are hereby authorised and empowered at
|
 
|
their discretion, if the interests of the inhabitants of
|
 
|
Worcester county require it, to appoint five commis-
|
 
|
sioners, and the said commissioners when so appointed,
|
 
|
they or a majority of them are hereby authorised to
|
 
|
purchase or condemn a lot of around not exceeding the
|
 
|
one half part of an acre for the use of Worcester coun-
|
 
|
ty, on either side of the Pocomoke river, at and oppo-
|
 
|
site to Mataponi landing, for the purpose of landing
|
 
|
places, and on which to erect wharves if necessary,
|

and the commissioners aforesaid, or a majority of them,
|
 
|
are hereby empowered to contract for materials, and to
|
 
|
agree with some person or persons to build and finish
|
 
|
the said wharves, which when completed, shall be and
|
 
|
remain as public wharves for the use of Worcester
|
 
|
county.
|
 
|
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the aforesaid commis-
|

sioners, or a majority of them, he, and they are here-
|
 
|
by authorised and required to purchase a ferry boat,
|
 
|
and the necessary ropes for the above contemplated
|
 
|
ferry.
|
 
|
SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That the aforesaid com-
|

missioners before they proceed to act in the premises,
|
oath
|
shall take an oatli that they will well and truly, and
|
 
|
without favor or partiality, perform the duties en-
|
 
|
joined upon them by this act, according to the best of
|
 
|
their skill and judgment
|
 
|
