CHAPTER 149.

Passed Mar.9,1836

An act to condemn and lay off a lot of ground for a pub-

 

lic wharf and lumber yard, at Mattaponi Landing,

 

on the Pocomoke river, in Worcester county.

Preamble

WHEREAS, it is represented to this General Assem-

 

bly, by the petition of sundry inhabitants of Worcester

 

county, that they labor under great inconvenience for

 

want of a public wharf and lumber yard at Mattaponi

 

landing, on Pocomoke river, in Worcester county, —

 

Therefore :

Commissioners to locate

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of

 

Maryland, That John S. Stevenson, John O. Selby,

 

George Bishop, Matthias Lindsay and Isaac Davis,

 

be and they hereby are appointed commissioners to lay

 

out, survey, mark and bound a piece of ground of such

 

size and extent as they may deem expedient, for a

 

public wharf and lumber yard, at Mattaponi landing,

 

on Pocomoke river, in Worcester county, in such a

 

form as the nature of the ground and the convenience

 

of the land holders will permit.

Plat— record

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the said commis-

 

sioners, or a majority of them, are hereby directed to

 

return a plot Of the said wharf and lumber yard, when

 

surveyed, marked and laid out as aforesaid, to the clerk

Public wharf, &c.

of the county court to be by him recorded; which wharf

 

and lumber yard shall forever thereafter be deemed and

 

taken as a public wharf and lumber yard, and shall be

 

kept up and repaired as all other public wharves in

 

said county are; Provided, that nothing herein contain-

 

ed, shall in any manner authorise the said commis-

 

sioners, to lay out the said wharf and lumber yard
