1831.

ty Town to New Market, now crosses said creek, of such
materials and of such construction, as they, in their judg-
ment may think best calculated to promote the public in-
terest.

CHAP. 79.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted. That the levy court of said
county, are hereby authorised to enter into and make con-
tracts with any person or persons competent to build said
bridge, and are required to take bond or bonds, with suffi-
cient security, from any contractor or contractors for the
faithful performance of the contracts entered into for build-
ing said bridge.

Sec. 3. And be it enacted, That when said bridge is
built it shall be a free bridge.

CHAPTER 79.

 

An additional supplement to an act to amend the Lottery
System.

Passed Feb. 8, 1832

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Ma-
ryland, That the commissioners of lotteries shall be, and
they are hereby authorised to grant, at any time hereafter,
a license or licenses, to any person or persons, to be in force
for the term of one year from the date of granting the same,
to sell, not only tickets in any scheme or schemes, of a lot-
tery or lotteries, which the said commissioners shall form and
dispose of, or, authorise, for the benefit of the State, but
also to sell tickets in any scheme or schemes of a lottery or
lotteries, granted by any of the States of this Union, or by
the United States of America, and which scheme or schemes
last mentioned shall be submitted to, and approved by the
said commissioners; and the tickets intended to be sold in
this State shall be stamped or signed by said commissioners,
before any tickets therein shall be sold by any person or
persons so as aforesaid licensed, in virtue of such license;

Provided however, that the person or persons who may be so
licensed shall pay to the said commissioners for the said li-
cense or licenses, the sum of five thousand dollars, to the use
of the State, in case the number of said licenses shall not ex-
ceed twenty; and the additional sum of two hundred and
fifty dollars for every such license granted above that num-

of obtaining the said license or licenses, contract with the
