CHAPTER 54.
An Act to authorise and require the Levy Court of
Kent County to Levy a sum of Money for the en-
largement and repair of the Offices of Clerk of the
County and Register of Wills.

CHAP. 55.
Passed Feb. 2

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of .Maryland,
That the levy court of Kent county be and they are here-
by authorised and required, at their next session, to levy
on the assessable property of Kent county a sum of money
not exceeding three hundred and fifty dollars, to be appli-
ed to the enlargement and repair of the house in which the
offices of clerk of the said county and register of wills are
kept and held, under the direction of such persons as the
said levy court shall designate and appoint, if in the opini-
on of the said court such enlargement and repair of the
offices be proper and expedient

CHAPTER 55.

 
 

An Act to prevent Gaming.

Passed Feb. 8,

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the judges of Baltimore city court, or 1
either of them, having sufficient reason and information,
founded on affidavit, or affirmation, as the case may be, to
induce the belief that gaming now prohibited by law, is
carried on or practised in any house in the city of Balti-
more, may issue a warrant to the sheriff of the county, or
to any other person, in their discretion, commanding him
to search such house, and to arrest and bring before the said
court, or one of the judges thereof, any person or persons
found in such house, and believed to be engaged in gaming
as aforesaid, for examination, together with the occupant of
the house, and to take into his possession and custody, and
to put under the control of the court, all gaming tables
and gambling implements found therein.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That in the execution of this
law, the officer authorised to make the search may take
such person or persons with him, and exercise such force
as shall be necessary to effect the object of this law, and
he and they may give such warrant and this act in evi-
