RESOLUTIONS.

States sloop of war Wasp, and his Britannic Majesty's ship
Frolic, which terminated in a glorious victory, notwith-
standing the great disparity of force in favour of the lat-
ter, and on other important occasions.
Resolved, That the governor be and he is hereby autho-
rised and directed, to procure and present to Captain George
W. Rogers a sword, as further evidence of the high sense
we entertain of the services he has rendered his country,
and that the governor be authorised to draw on the trea-
surer of the western shore for such sum as may be neces-
sary to carry into effect these resolutions.

A Resolution relative to Internal Improvement.
Resolved, by the General Assembly of Maryland That
the extension and security of the coasting trade of the states
of Virginia, Delaware, and of this state, would be effectu-
ally promoted by the opening of a safe and direct naviga-
tion through the Sounds which run parallel with the sea-
coast, and by the construction of such canals, as may be re-
quisite for the purpose, between the Chesapeake Bav, at
or near Cape Charles, and LewivStown Creek on the Bay of
Delaware, and that the co-operation of the states interested
in the improvement be immediately invited to this object.
Resolved, That the governor of this state be requested
to communicate the foregoing resolution to the president
of the United States, and to express the earnest wish of this
general assembly, that one or more competent engineers
may be appointed to make an accurate survey of the coast
designated in the said resolution, and to report the esti-
mate of the probable cost of the improvement proposed.
Resolved, That the governor be also requested to trans-
mit a copy of the first resolution to the governor of the
states of Virginia and Delaware, and to desire that the
same may be as speedily as possible communicated to their
respective general assemblies.
