Vrecord of the same, and report to the governor and coun-
cil the number and quality of each description received.
Sec. 5. And be it enacted, That the armourer at the
city of Annapolis shall, whenever called upon by the ad-
jutant-general, admit him into the armoury for the pur-
poses of inspection, and the result of such inspections shall
he annually reported by the adjutant general to the gover-
nor and council, at least thirty days prior to the meeting
of the general assembly.

Sec. 6. And be it enacted, That whenever any arms,
accoutrements, or other articles, deposited in the armouries
as public property, shall be removed therefrom, the ar-
mourer immediately report the same to the adjutant-ge-
neral, stating the purposes for which they were so le-
moved, and the authority under which he acted.

Sec. 7. And be if enacted, That it shall he the duly of
the quarter-master-general, and the brigade and regimental
quarter-masters, whenever they have reason to believe that
any of the public arms are not properly preserved, or have
fallen into the possession of those who have no right to
retain the same, or that they may in any manner be lost
to the state, to cause any such arms to be seized and trans-
mitted to the nearest state armoury; and it shall he the duty
of any militia officer, having knowledge of any arms so
situated, immediately to report the same to some one of
said quarter-masters.

CHAPTER 114.

 
 

An Act to compensate the Adjutant-General of this
State.

Passed Feb 18

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That from and after the firsi day of January
eighteen hundred and thirty-one, the adjutant-general of
this state be paid the annual salary of three hundred and
fifty dollars, from any unappropriated money in the trea-
sury, as a compensation for his services in issuing orders,
receiving and making, out correct returns of the militia,
and keeping regular files of such returns in his office; Pro-
vided, that previously to receiving any compensation un-
der this act, the said adjutant-general shall relinquish all
claim upon the state for past services in that department,
